Fixed Term Contract
An HSE engineer is required to work with a leading renewables client on a fixed-term contract in Berlin.
The nature of this job function is Quality Engineering Technology driven which comprises product safety, environment, quality & engineering safety, this as well includes the planning, setting up and reviewing of processes relevant for the manufacturing, shipping, installation and completion of an offshore wind-farm. The HSE Engineer will report primarily to the Health & Safety Manager
Role and Responsibilities
- To develop and apply a sound understanding of European harmonized standards to assure machine and plant safety and environment
- Oversee all equipment to be placed within the windfarm, its documentation is complete and in compliance with statutory and national legislation
- Drive engineering safety and relevant processes based on quality assurance approach by applying methodologies as such hazard analysis, risk assessment under European harmonized standards; fault tree analysis and product FMEA
- Develop the safety, rescue and evacuation concept for the different assets in the park against general windfarm set up
- Verify fire protection concepts, and if in doubt, seek consult from fire protection expert or German authorities, respectively State Department for Safety & Health
- Comment and review installation and commissioning procedures with a focus on machine and plant safety
- Review processes and end product and make safety-oriented suggestions so that the windfarm components are safety accepted before shipped and personnel are not exposed to hazards
- Conduct product audits (critical quality gate) at manufacturing sites (before load out), after installation, pre-commissioning and take over
- Set up an ‘audit program’ so that the contractor and its contractors are audited, selected, and qualified against industry best practice
- Provide HSE management support to the project site through regular meetings, walk-downs and reporting through the site team
- Review wind park related designs, related documents and concepts for environmental aspects (including spill management, spill response, chemical use) to promote best practice.
- Conclude and document (hazard analysis) the correct use of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn on wind park sites.
- Assess, comment and document that either free issued equipment or machinery added to the plant does not provide hazards
Skills/ Experience
- Basic understanding of substation plant, wind turbines and offshore foundations. If this is not existent, the job holder must come from a strong engineering background being able to understand production systems, AutoCAD software and the use in producing relevant machinery and plant documentation
- Advanced (mechanical/electrical) knowledge of (engineering) safety methodologies relevant for the works
- Able to read and comprehend technical/ technology aspects such as systems, drawings, machinery, and work equipment
- Understanding of Offshore EPC, alternatively has worked as a project engineer in an engineering project context
- Understanding of offshore logistics and construction would be beneficial but not essential
- Work and understand Microsoft Office Package (complete) on advanced level
- Fluency in German or English
- Must be able to understand the logics of database systems
- Knowledge and capable of developing an understanding for procedural documentation
- Must have a good understanding or desire for European and harmonized Health & Safety (legislative) and Environmental requirements
- ISO 45001, ISO14001 and 9001 knowledge would be beneficial
- Knowledge of AutoCAD would be advantageous
